I am reviewing Acabou Chorare by Novos Baianos. It was released in 1972. There are 10 songs and the album goes for nearly 40 minutes. The album has been rated very positively over the years, with Rolling Stone even naming it the number one Brazilian album in 2007 on their list, “The 100 Greatest Albums of Brazilian Music.”
The album is a mix of a few genres, but the main one is bossa nova. The members of the band at the time were Moreaes Miranda, Pepeu Gomes, Baby Consuelo, Paulinho Boca de Cantor, Didi Gomes, Luís Bolacha, Jorginho Gomes, Baixinho, and Eustáquio Sena.
I found this album to be very entertaining. I hadn’t listened to any bossa nova albums before so I researched what would be a good album to start with and this is what I found. I went with this album because it is one of the most known albums in bossa nova.
The album is short but stays interesting throughout. The parts that I find to be the highlights for this album are Moraes Miranda on vocals, and Pepeu Gomes on guitar. They both do an excellent job at their respective parts on the album. I think my favorite song would have to be “Misterio do Planeta.”
