On June 1st and 2nd, at Marblehead High School, a play titled Caught in the Tailspin was performed. The cast and crew were all students from the high school, but unlike many other high school plays, this production was also written by a high school student. Molly Grant wrote this play, which she still considers a work in progress, back in her sophomore year, and now presented it during her senior year as her senior project. However, this play was the effort of many people. Mimi Fallon, Molly Grant, Elizabeth Erskine, and Caroline Linde all contributed untold amounts to this production and worked together on it as their senior project. In addition, the cast and crew worked incredibly hard to make the story come alive.
Caught in the Tailspin is a marvelous play about a diverse cast of characters aboard a commercial flight. As they work through their interpersonal relationships and explore what they really want in life, they all go through a traumatic experience together.
When I first sat down to watch this play, I didn’t know what to expect. All I knew was that I had some friends in the cast, and that it was about people aboard an airplane. However, through the first and second acts, I grew attached to the characters, to the point of becoming teary-eyed towards the end.
I performed in many plays back in middle school, as well as having attended many more, and would just like to say that this play was well-written, well-acted, and well-executed. Molly Grant did an amazing job in the writing of this play, and everyone who contributed should be incredibly proud of what they accomplished. So to all those who worked for hours on this play as a senior project, or just dedicated their time to helping this come alive, I would like to congratulate you for a job very, very well done.
