John Curtis, Freshman
On October 7th, the freshman class at MHS had an election for their class officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. On that day, we listened to the candidates’ speeches, and then we voted on who we wanted for each position via a Google Form sent to our cell phones.
The first and most powerful role is Class President. Chloe Rowland and Will Cruikshank were the two candidates running for class president. In the end, Chloe won. It is Chloe’s job to attend meetings and give a student perspective on the school’s development.
The Class President also works with the students to resolve problems and inform the school leaders and councils about ideas from the school. I spoke to Chloe and asked her what was the first thing she wanted to address as president. Chloe told me that, “The first thing I want to do as president is to begin to create and hold fundraisers.”
The second-in-command role is Vice President. The candidates for Vice President were Liv Niles, Dylan Whitman, and Sydney Berman. After the votes were cast, Dylan Whitman was elected Vice President. As Vice President, it is Dylan’s job to be a helpful partner to the President. I asked Dylan how he would support Chloe Rowland as her Vice President and he said, “I want to give valuable ideas.”
The next position we voted on was Secretary. The candidates that were running for Secretary were Samara Dosh, Mollie Farber, and Lucas Rosen. After the votes were cast, Samara Dosh was elected Secretary. It is Samara’s job to take care of all the administrative details: scheduling appointments and being aware of everything that is going on at school on a day-to-day basis. When I met with Samara, I asked her how she will represent all of her classmates equally. In response, she said, “I will hear all of your ideas and try to combine all of them with the different groups of kids.”
Finally, the last position we voted for was Treasurer. Quinn Harris, Zack Plum, and Molly Titus were the candidates. After the votes, Quinn Harris was elected the Treasurer. It is Quinn’s job to approve all freshman class transactions. She is also responsible for maintaining all of the records that track every income and expense. I spoke to Quinn and asked her what motivated her to run for Treasurer. She said, “I was motivated to run for Treasurer because I want to get involved with our school.”
As of November 1, the class of 2026 have yet to see any action from the candidates. I am sure that they will do something soon. I am confident that Chloe Rowland, Dylan Whitman, Samara Dosh, and Quinn Harris will be good leaders and make our four years at Marblehead High School the best school years ever!
