Ethan Horgan, Freshman
On Halloween Monday, students from Marblehead, across all grade levels, dressed up spectacularly for the holiday. An insider at the Village School let us know all about this year’s costumes for the elementary school kids. Ninjas, turtles, and lots of Ninja Turtles were seen throughout the school hallways as almost everyone down in the lower grades made a great appearance.
But here in the high school, we had fewer costumes than ever. The freshman had the theme of Country Club vs. Country, and there were definitely a lot of classic cowboys and a lot fewer country club members. What I did see in the freshman class was a Luigi outfit, what I thought was a Stranger Things outfit, and a cheerleader costume.
The sophomores were tasked with the 80s and Neon Colors. Lots of bright pinks, and a few 80’s outfits. The sophomore class definitely brightened up the school with their exotic colors.
The juniors had to dress in Inflatables this year. A giant inflatable dinosaur roamed the halls this year, crashing its head on every doorway it entered.
For the seniors, they had to dress in the Goth Style. Lots of black lipstick and risque tights. They definitely had the best turn out.
What I was most disappointed about was the lack of teacher costumes. I saw a few good ones, however. Two teachers dressed as students, with their AirPods in and huge sweatshirts and sweatpants. The English department came up with a great idea, Pac-Man, with one “Game Start,” one Pac-Man, three ghosts, and one “Game Over.”
Overall, this year’s costumes certainly had some standouts, but generally, lots of students opted out of dressing up for Halloween this year.
