John Curtis, Freshman (and Legally Blonde Assistant Director)
High school is the last time of structure before you go off on your own. You can choose to go to college if you want, but high school is really the last time you are with everyone you have grown up with. That’s why schools always try to make high school the best years of your lives. High schools also have classes that prepare you for the outside world. Do you want to be a lawyer when you grow up? Take a class about the law. If you want to be a Broadway star, then maybe you should try out for the drama club. At MHS, we have two annual drama performances. This year, one is Legally Blonde, a musical based on the book by Amanda Brown, which was later turned into a movie starring Reese Witherspoon.
Legally Blonde is a story about Elle Woods, a college girl with a boyfriend named Warner. One night, Elle thinks that Warner is going to propose to her. Instead, he breaks up with her because he is going to Harvard Law School and needs someone “serious” in his life. She then decides to follow Warner to law school in an attempt to win him back. This musical is very fast-paced. It’s not as fast as Hamilton, but the dancing is way more advanced. It is a perfectly clean musical to be enjoyed by all ages. As the assistant director, I can assure you that this musical will be amazing. I am super excited and honored to be named assistant director for this high school drama production. This role has given me the chance to watch these talented actors every day at rehearsals and witness the behind-the-scenes of a musical.
This year’s musical has many talented actors and singers. For our leads, Elle Woods will be played by Chloe Curtis, and Warner Huntington III will be played by CJ English. Emmet Forest will be played by Brady Weed. Putting on a musical production takes a lot of hard work. Thanks to the help of the directors Mr. Rash and Mr. Scoglio, we have been able to put together an incredible show. Consider penciling in our show Legally Blonde on your entertainment calendar for the weekend of April 28th.
